From Documentary Film to Children's Books: The Story Behind Hvolbeck Studios

The journey to founding Hvolbeck Studios wasn't a straight line. It was a path paved by a passion for storytelling that spans across genres, mediums, and audiences. Today, we produce commercial video content and manage recording artists in Rhode Island, but our roots trace back to documentary film production and a deep love for children's entertainment.

The Early Days: "Behind the Red Nose"

Our founder, Bradley Hvolbeck Jr., began his career with a clear vision: he wanted to host a kids' show. That ambition led him from Connecticut to Los Angeles, working both in front of and behind the camera. In 1999, he opened Pocket Full of Monkeys Productions.

One of his first major projects was a deep dive into an often-misunderstood world: a documentary film titled "Behind the Red Nose." This intensive six-month project honed his skills in documentary film production, teaching him how to find the human element in any story. Those same documentary techniques—authenticity, pacing, and emotional resonance—are what we now apply to our corporate brand films and commercial projects.

    Expanding the Vision

Following the documentary, the studio expanded into commercials, music videos, and eventually, the children's show pilot "Clown Cooking." A relocation to Rhode Island brought new opportunities, including the development of the feature film "Watch Island," set right here in our coastal community.

    A Multimedia Future

Today, Hvolbeck Studios in Westerly, RI is the culmination of decades of production experience. But we haven't forgotten our roots. Alongside our core video and podcast production services, we proudly operate Pocket Full of Monkeys Publishing, creating children's books and multimedia content like the "What's Up Pup?" YouTube series.

Whether we are shooting a high-end commercial in Providence or illustrating a children's book, the goal remains the same: to tell stories that matter.
